Theological Essentials

What We
Believe.

These are the essential convictions that anchor our life together at GCC. They are the beliefs we hold in common, rooted in Scripture and shared with the historic Christian faith.

01

Salvation by Christ Alone

Salvation is God’s gift, received by grace through faith, by which believers are given the righteousness of Christ, who took our sins for us.

02

Justification by Substitutionary Atonement

On account of the consequences of Adam’s sin and his children, the Lord required a reckoning. For those who have placed their faith in Christ, their debt has been satisfied by the atonement of His Son, and they are accounted justified by imputing the obedience and satisfaction of Christ unto them.

03

The Second Coming of Jesus Christ

At the closing of this age, Christ will return in all His glory.

04

Judgment, Resurrection, and Final Destinies

The bodily resurrection of Adam and all his posterity. We will all be raised again; those clothed in the righteousness of Christ will enjoy eternity in the new heavens and new earth. The damned will be thrown into Hell, the lake of fire, to participate in the Lord’s judgment of eternal, conscious torment for all eternity.

05

The Authority of Scripture

God has given the Bible, as a testimony and revelation of Himself, to the church, and it is the final authority on all matters of faith and practice.

06

The Virgin Birth

We affirm the virgin birth of Jesus Christ.

07

Fully God and Fully Man

Jesus Christ is one person with two natures. One nature is the divine nature; the other is a perfect human nature. (Chalcedonian Christology)

08

The Trinity

God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are three eternal persons who share the same divine nature and are equal in power and glory.

09

Creation

God created all things from nothing by His Word.

10

Humanity in God’s Image

God created Adam and Eve to be His image bearers. They were the first human creation and enjoyed a special relationship with God in the Garden of Eden.

11

The Work of Jesus Christ

In His humanity, Christ never sinned, kept the Law, and earned His righteousness. He died for sinners and was raised to life on the third day, according to the Scriptures.

12

Christ the King

Jesus is God’s anointed King, granted all authority in Heaven and Earth, who stands as the head of the New Covenant, in which all true believers participate.
