Church Staff

We are so glad that you have visited this website, and we hope that you will come meet us in person. Gallipolis Christian Church is a welcoming place where anyone and everyone is invited to come encounter God!

  • Joe Bowers - LEAD Minister

Joe was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. A graduate of Johnson University in Knoxville, Tennessee with a Bachelor's degree in Preaching and Church Leadership, he has also completed a portion of his Master's degree in New Testament studies. Assuming the role of preaching ministry and church leadership, Joe shares the Gospel in ways that form disciples who can then train more disciples. His interests are proclaiming truth from the Word of God, running in town, kayaking, and spending time with his family. Joe and his wife, Kyli (see below), have two beautiful daughters (Ada Kay and Mirabelle Louise) who bless their lives everyday. They are excited to strengthen the faith of believers at Gallipolis Christian Church and to share the hope of Christ with many others in the surrounding area!  Email Joe

Following her graduation with a Bachelor's degree in Preschool Directing and Children's Ministry, she now leads the Gallipolis Christian Church in ministry to children from birth through 5th grade. • Jacob Shockey - Student Minister

Jacob was born in Middletown, OH but was raised almost his entire life in Gallipolis, OH.  He attended Johnson University, dual-majoring in Ministry Leadership and Bible/Theology to earn his Bachelor's degree.  He is currently pursuing a Master's degree in New Testament with an emphasis in Spiritual Formation. Jacob currently leads the student ministry, 6th grade - 12th grade, at Gallipolis Christian Church.  He enters this position after serving previously within several missions organizations and churches.  He has attended GCC for many years.  Jacob's interests include preaching the Gospel, running slower than Joe, but lifting more than him, fishing, spending time with students, playing with his dog Lincoln, and spoiling his fiance - Amanda Eddy.  Jacob is excited to be a part of the GCC team and hopes to impact the lives of many students here in Gallia County.  Email Jacob

  • Lawrence Wedemeyer - Worship Leader

Lawrence is a Gallipolis native. He has spent his life getting to know the people of this community, and it seems like just about everyone knows him. He joined the GCC worship team as a volunteer leader when our local church began to experience a growth spurt, and since then he has continually done a great job. Now that he has an official title, he is still as humble as ever, and we are excited to see the ways in which Lawrence will use his Spirit led gifts to bring glory to God. Lawrence's desire is to lead our congregation into the Lord's presence each week through music, though he recognizes that is not the only way we worship God. Lawrence works full time in the local community, so if you need to get in touch with him, just give the GCC office a call or visit us on a Sunday morning. Lastly, you may find it strange that Lawrence would seek to save lost souls when, according to his ginger hair, he himself does not have one... But we still love him anyway. Together with his wife, Emily, the Wedemeyer's hope to leave a lasting impact for Christ in Gallipolis.

Meet the Leadership

Our church leadership is comprised of some pretty unique people from throughout our community who volunteer to help make this local church serve its purpose. We have a motto: "We will work extremely hard, but we will laugh even harder." It's easy to get caught up in the distractions of life, but we as leaders hope to set the example for Christian joy, especially as we serve God and our local church. Each of us consider GCC to be our extended family and our second home. Thank you for letting us serve in ministry as deacons and elders!
